To me, mentoring means having someone to talk to. I feel like this person is someone who cares. Mentors understand you and strive to give you good advice. My mentor is also there for moral support and to push me to become a better person. My mentor is like a big sister, minus all the fights. My mentor is always there for me.
I think it is especially important for teenage girls to have a mentor so that they have someone they can trust and a role model to look up to.
Mentoring is important to me because I had a mentor my freshmen year of high school who was always there for me if I needed someone to talk to or ask questions. Every Tuesday she would take time out of her morning and drive me to school and we would talk the whole way there. I believe her mentorship and just being a "big sis" inspired me to be a mentor to someone else in need.
B.E.A.U.T.Y. Mentoring is much more than just leading younger girls and showing them how to look. B.E.A.U.T.Y. Mentoring specializes in helping young ladies build a brand. Beauty is not just an external appearance; it also comes from within. This amazing and life-changing program is something that I hope will continue to change and leave a monumental mark on our youth. In B.E.A.U.T.Y. Mentoring, I have learned how to carry myself with confidence in front of others and to always have respect for myself. Through being active in B.E.A.U.T.Y. Mentoring, I was taught to set short-term and long-term goals, and that I should work hard at everything that I want to accomplish. My mentor, Sherrell Ogletree, has exceeded the standards for a mentor; she has been like a sister to me, and I know that I can talk to her about anything. She's helped me build my confidence and a brand all at once. Mentorship comes with a lot of priorities and work, but it is all worth it when you see the end result of the lives you've impacted. B.E.A.U.T.Y. Mentoring has taught me independence, leadership, self-respect and, most importantly, confidence in myself. This program has been the BEST thing that has happened to me. I thank God for B.E.A.U.T.Y. Mentoring and the people that have made me the young lady that I am today.
